Emma Sommers, LPC
Emma is a Licensed Professional Counselor who graduated with a Masters in clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Scranton. She has over 5 years of experience working in the mental health field in areas of crisis intervention, education systems, and intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization programs. She works primarily with adults, but has experience and enjoys working with adolescent populations as well. Emma provides sessions in person at our Freehold location and virtually throughout New Jersey with a secure telehealth portal.
“What works for one person does not work for all, and I aim to connect genuinely with each individual, meeting them where they are with humor, compassion, and attentiveness.”
Emma has an approach that is inviting, authentic, flexible, and non-judgmental. She believes that therapy should allow the clients to have autonomy within sessions while maintaining focus on their treatment goals. Her personality is very empathetic and motivational. You will instantly feel like she has your back on whatever you bring to your sessions. Emma specializes in life transitions, anxiety, and athletic performance; but is qualified in additional areas including addiction, personality disorders, chronic impulsivity, grief, relationship issues and codependency, emotional disturbance, gender identity, trauma and PTSD. She utilizes a handful of treatment modalities that are tailored to fit into the context of the clients needs. Her most common modalities include Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Brief (SFBT), Mindfulness Based, and Motivational Interviewing.
“My goals as a clinician have always been to promote a sense of autonomy and foster resilience in each individual I work with. My hope is that I can serve as a source of support and encouragement, walking alongside clients as they grow, change, and move forward in life.”
